Resume Preparation

Firstly, and probably most importantly, keep your resume succinct. Your resume should be no longer than 4 pages.

  • If you do/use the same skill sets in different roles, it is only necessary to mention this once, NOT for every role. Example: list computer programming languages used as a sub section, not repeated for every role.
  • Avoid tables and graphs that are a repeat of information already mentioned in your resume.
  • Do not include logos of all the companies you have worked for. They slow down the opening of a resume, take up room, and what is the point?
  • Do not include photographs or scanned copies of degrees/certificates, etc.
  • Do not list referees in your application/resume. Should you be considered for a role, you will be asked for a list of referees. It is assumed that many candidates’ referees will change, depending on the particular role in question.
  • Similarly, it is not necessary to include quotes from former clients/work colleagues.
  • Do not include independent Job Fit Profile or psychometric assessment results. If a Client is to be swayed by these results, they will more than likely conduct their own.
  • To ensure you are picked up in data base searches, do "spell out" (at least once) any acronyms that may not be in common daily usage.
  • Do not include lists of "personal attributes". These are your opinions only - we know you all think you are hard working, with a strong work ethic, a natural team leader and always striving to improve. But who doesn’t think that?
  • Remember to include your name and contact details (preferably a phone number) on your resume.

Relevance to Role:

When asked for a brief relevance to role, please make sure it is just that. Ideally this will be no more than half a page, preferably in bullet points that address the Candidate Requirements or the Role Requirements as stated in the brief.

  • Example: Profile requests: "experience managing operations of a manufacturing organisation". Your response would be along the lines of "5 years as Operations Manager at Unilever"; Or "Chemical industry sales experience" your response "Successful sales career in the speciality and commodity raw material markets" Or: "marketing experience in the hotel/hospitality industry." Your response: "3 years as Marketing Manager for Novotel, Singapore", etc.
  • Again, avoid including lists of personal attributes (see above).
  • Do NOT include points or information that are not related to the role
  • Very importantly, make sure your points of relevance match up to what is included, and expanded on, in your resume.
